Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, MURAL (Men Understanding Respect And Love) was set up to fill a gap.
MURAL aims to provide abusers with a support group, consisting of those who have stopped and those who are trying to stop physical, emotional, verbal, financial and/or sexual abuse of their partners.
A psychologist may be recommended to assist where appropriate.
CONFIDENTIALITY IS PARAMOUNT
MURAL's Objectives
- to lift the lid on male abuse
|
- to show that it can be overcome
|
|
- to encourage abusers to seek help
|
MURAL was started in South Africa in 2005 by Bearnard O'Riain
 |
"When writing Running to Stand Still about my abuse in my marriages, and how
we overcame it, I discovered that men in Soweto and Alexandra Townships, had organised groups to tackle the problem.
Our two counsellors had heard of no such group in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.
I resolved to fill the gap. And so we formed MURAL" |
